A real use case
A landlord sends a flat PDF form with no fillable fields. Add text over each blank line, add your signature image, and save. The original lines stay and your entries sit on top.
Why edit with Edit in your browser?
- Fill in a flat PDF form that has no fillable fields by typing over it.
- Add a logo, stamp or photo as an image on any page.
- Cover a mistake with a white box and type the correction.
- No sign-up, no watermark, and the file never leaves your device.
What this changes in your file
pdf.js draws each page into a canvas so you can see it, and your additions are kept as positions on the page. When you click Save, pdf-lib opens the original file and draws your text, images and boxes on top of the existing pages, then saves a new file. Nothing is uploaded, and the original is never overwritten.
Limits and edge cases
- You cannot edit or delete text that is already in the PDF. A box only covers it. Use Redact PDF to remove text for real.
- Added text uses a standard Helvetica font and Western European characters only.
- Rotated pages cannot be edited here. Straighten them with Rotate PDF first.
- Added items sit on top of the page and are not form fields.
Edit PDF compared to uploading tools
iLovePDF, Smallpdf and PDF24 all offer this kind of job, and the online ones upload your file to their servers to do it. Here the work happens in this tab instead. Read the honest comparisons with iLovePDF, Smallpdf and PDF24, including where they are the better choice, or how to check that a tool does not upload.
