Figures checked against Sejda's own pages on October 30, 2026

EasyPDFLoad vs Sejda: an honest comparison
Short answer: Sejda is two products. Sejda Web uploads your file to its servers and says it deletes it automatically after 2 hours. Sejda Desktop is an installed app that, per the vendor, never uploads your file. Sejda is stronger on range and editing. EasyPDFLoad is the choice when you want one browser tab and no upload.
EasyPDFLoad is a competing PDF tool, so weigh this page accordingly. The Sejda statements below were read in October 2026 on Sejda's own pages: the privacy policy, the security page, the pricing page, the desktop page and several tool pages such as Merge and Compress. They are the vendor's claims, not our test results. Policies and limits change, so check the live pages before you rely on a figure.
The real difference with Sejda: where the work happens
Sejda Web sends your file to Sejda's servers. Its tool pages say "Files are safely uploaded over an encrypted connection", and its desktop page puts the contrast plainly: with Sejda Web "files are uploaded and processed on our servers", while with the desktop app "files are processed on your computer, not uploaded to our servers". So the honest answer to "does Sejda upload my files" is that the web tools do and the desktop app is described as not doing so.
Sejda Desktop is a download for Windows, Mac and Linux, with a Chromebook installation guide linked from the same page. It is a separate product with its own daily limits, which we cover below. It is a local model, and for some jobs a local install is a better fit than any browser tool, ours included.
EasyPDFLoad has one architecture. The page loads code, and pdf-lib and pdf.js read your file in the browser tab. The tool itself sends nothing to a server. A strict Content-Security-Policy in our config limits where the page may connect, and you can confirm the absence of an upload in the Network tab.
That makes the comparison three-way. Sejda Web is a server model. Sejda Desktop and EasyPDFLoad are both local models, but one needs an install and the other needs only a browser. Our privacy policy says we may show ads and use analytics cookies, so "local processing" describes your file, not every request the page makes.
EasyPDFLoad and Sejda side by side
| EasyPDFLoad | Sejda | |
|---|---|---|
| File uploaded to a server | No, processed in your browser tab | Web: yes. Desktop: vendor says no |
| Stated retention period | Not applicable, nothing is received | Web tool pages: automatically deleted after 2 hours. The privacy policy gives no hour figure |
| Free file size and page limit | No cap set by us; your device memory is the limit | Web, depends on the tool: 50 pages or 50 MB on Merge, 200 pages or 100 MB on Compress. Desktop: documents up to 50 MB and 200 pages |
| Free daily task limit | None set by us | Web: 3 tasks per hour. Desktop free plan: 3 tasks per day |
| Account required | No | No sign-up for the free tier, per the pricing page |
| Watermark on output | No | Not stated on the pages we read |
| Offline use | Some tools, once the page has loaded. Others need a connection first. | Desktop app, per the vendor; the web tools need a connection |
| Number of tools | More than twenty | 30+ on the web home page; the desktop tool count is not stated on the pages we read |
| OCR | Yes, English only, in the browser | Yes; free desktop plan limits OCR to files of up to 10 pages |
| PDF to Word | Yes, text and headings only | Listed under its Convert from PDF tools |
| Mobile app | No app, it is a web page | Not stated on the pages we read |
| Price for full access | Free | Free tier plus paid options: a Web Week Pass at $5, and Desktop+Web at $63 per user per year |
The pricing and desktop pages showed some other amounts that looked wrong as read, so we left them out. Open Sejda's pricing page for the current figures before you decide.
Our daily limit cell means we do not meter you. It does not mean unlimited in practice: a very large scan can run out of memory in a browser tab, and compressing it re-renders every page, which is slow.
What Sejda does better
Sejda has more tools and a deeper editor. Its home page promotes editing a PDF in the browser, and its desktop menu groups its tools into categories such as Edit & Sign, Scans and Automate. We have no automation menu and no full text editor. If you edit existing text, fill and sign forms or run repeated jobs, Sejda is the stronger product.
Free limits are also a mixed picture. Sejda's web limit is 3 tasks per hour, which resets, while its free desktop plan allows 3 tasks per day. We set no task count at all, but we also cannot process anything that does not fit in your tab's memory. Its Compress page accepts up to 200 pages or 100 MB on the free tier, a clear figure we can compare against.
Our OCR tool runs on your device and loads English only, which makes it slow on long scans. Sejda's free desktop plan caps OCR at files of up to 10 pages, so for a long scan you would need a paid plan or our slower local option. Neither is ideal for a large archive.
Conversion is the area to be fair about. Our PDF to Word reads the text layer and writes headings and paragraphs. It does not keep columns, tables or images. Our Word to PDF lays text out on fresh A4 pages and does not reproduce fonts or exact spacing. We have no evidence about how Sejda's output compares, so we make no claim. Test your own file on both.
Sejda Desktop, the installed app
Sejda Desktop changes the privacy picture, so it gets its own section. The vendor says that with Sejda Desktop "files are processed on your computer, not uploaded to our servers", and its tool pages say it has the "Same features as the online service" and that "the files never leave your computer". If that holds, it is a genuinely strong local option, and a local install is less fragile than a browser tab on a very large file.
The limits are specific. The free plan is described as free "with daily limits": 3 tasks per day, documents up to 50 MB and 200 pages, compression of files up to 100 MB, and OCR on files up to 10 pages. Merging is capped at 30 files and 50 pages, and conversions run one file at a time. The page does not say whether a free trial exists. Its closest offer is a paid 7 day Week Pass that downgrades to free afterwards.
Where it does not win: it needs an install. That rules it out on a locked-down work laptop where you cannot add software, and it is not an option on a phone. The pages we read do not say whether the desktop app needs a connection for any feature, so check that if the point is that nothing leaves the machine.
What Sejda's privacy policy actually says
The privacy policy says: "All user-uploaded files as well as the processed output files will be permanently deleted after upload or processing", and that "No backups are made of these files." It gives no number of hours. The 2 hour figure comes from the individual tool pages, which say "Automatically deleted after 2 hours." So the 2 hours is a tool page claim and the policy's own wording is looser.
On access, the policy says: "We use the contents of your User Files solely to perform the operations you request." The security page adds: "Our employees do not access your documents without your consent." It also says documents are "encrypted in transit and at rest".
There are exceptions to know about. Files you share with support are copied "for the sole purpose of troubleshooting application errors" and deleted "after an unspecified period of time". Publicly shared files are deleted 7 days after being shared. For AI-assisted features, content is sent to an AI sub-processor for transient processing, with processing in the European Union or, during temporary capacity failover, in the United States.
On the site itself, the policy says Sejda uses cookies and other tracking technologies, and it lists sub-processors including Google, Cloudflare, DigitalOcean and Google Cloud, with locations such as the United States and Europe. We found no certification such as ISO 27001 claimed on the security page. We make no claim either way about whether it holds one.
How to verify the Sejda claims yourself
You do not need to trust our summary or theirs. The browser records every request a page makes, and the steps are the same for any tool. We keep them in one place rather than repeat them: read how to check if a PDF tool uploads your file.
Run the check on a Sejda web tool and on one of ours, such as merge or compress, using the same file. For Sejda Desktop, DevTools cannot see it, so use a firewall prompt or a resource monitor while it works, and try it with the network switched off.
EasyPDFLoad or Sejda: when to use which
Use Sejda when you need to edit existing text, fill and sign forms, or run a wider set of tools than we offer. Use Sejda Web when the file is not sensitive and the 2 hour deletion claim is enough for you. Use Sejda Desktop when you can install software and want local processing with the full Sejda toolset.
Use EasyPDFLoad when you are on a Chromebook, a phone or a locked-down work PC, or you want a one-off job without an install or sign-up. It also fits when you would rather the file never left the tab: splitting, password protecting or redacting a sensitive document. Remember redaction here flattens the affected pages to images.
More comparisons are on the comparison hub, including PDF24, which has the same web and desktop split. Our private PDF tools page covers the wider field.
Straight answers (EasyPDFLoad vs Sejda: an honest)
Does Sejda upload my files?
Sejda Web does. Its pages say files are uploaded over an encrypted connection. Sejda Desktop is described as processing files on your computer without uploading them.
How long does Sejda keep my files?
Its tool pages say files are automatically deleted after 2 hours. The privacy policy says files are deleted after upload or processing and gives no hour figure.
Is Sejda free?
Yes, with limits. The free web tier allows 3 tasks per hour and caps pages and size by tool. The free desktop plan allows 3 tasks per day. Paid options exist.
Is Sejda safe?
We found no independent test, so we cannot say. The vendor claims deletion after 2 hours, encryption in transit and at rest, and no staff access without consent. Verify in DevTools.
Does Sejda have a watermark?
We did not find a statement about a watermark on free output in the pages we read. Check a sample file before relying on it.
What is the best free Sejda alternative?
It depends on the job. For files you do not want uploaded, EasyPDFLoad runs in your browser tab. For text editing and a wider toolset, Sejda itself is stronger.
