When you need 10 MB

10 MB sits under many upload forms and mail limits while leaving scans clearly readable. It is a target for large scanned documents rather than a strict portal limit.

A 40-page scanned report is 34 MB and the file-sharing form behind your project accepts 10 MB. Setting the target to 10 MB reduces the scan until it fits, and you check the result before you upload.

What gets sacrificed at 10 MB

In our test the 20-page, 29 MB scan came out at 7.6 MB in about 34 seconds, the slowest run we measured, because every page has to be re-rendered. Detail loss is small at this size.

If it will not reach 10 MB

A very large file. If the tool runs out of memory on your device, split the PDF into parts first. A phone has far less memory than a laptop.

Text you need to keep. Use the keep text selectable mode of Compress PDF. It only recompresses images, and may not shrink a mostly-text file.

How to check nothing is uploaded (10 MB)

  • Every page is re-rendered as an image, so text is no longer selectable or searchable.
  • A mostly-text PDF may not reach 10 MB; the tool reports the smallest usable size instead.
  • Very large scans can take a few extra seconds while the tool searches for the right quality.
